Dr. Sanchez received his Doctor of philosophy from University of Idaho in 1998 majoring in education. His dissertation examined learning styles of Mexican American Adults and included a comparison to learning style of the US. He received his Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in 1974 and his Bachelor of Science from Southern Colorado State College, Pueblo, Colorado. He served in the US Army from 1969-1971.

Dr. Sanchez has worked in the field of mental health and human services for 30 years in Colorado, Oregon, and Idaho. He is a full time associate professor at Northwest Nazarene University in the Graduate Social Work Program. He also teaches part-time at Boise State University at Canyon County Campus focusing on Mexican American studies and sociology.
