In case you were wondering,
the cruise (Western Caribbean on the Norwegian Wind) was terrific and the conference: Making
Connections - Technology in Education, in Orlando, Florida, was informative and
enlightening. I toured the digital media labs and centers at University of Central Florida
and came away with a good feeling about the direction we are heading with our digital lab.
The new five year plan has been approved by the chairs and I will be moving forward on purchasing PCs for the first year. With the first year's implementation, we will be near our goal of having Pentiums on all faculty and staff workstations. The plan also calls for memory upgrades and hard drive replacements to get those workstations that will be accessing PeopleSoft (either financials or student system) up to the minimum required standards (Pentium100 or better, at least 32MB RAM and 1GB free space on the hard drive). Training on the Ci3/CATI system was held October 21st and 22nd and those in attendence came away with a better understanding of the telephone survey setup that we have available to us. Training included authoring surveys on the Ci3 software and preparing them for use on the CATI system, the actual implementation of the phone survey, and downloading the results for statistical evaluation. My workstudy, Brian Gornall, is mid-way into the Y2K compliance survey - checking hardware and software compliance on each PC within the college. I appreciate the cooperation each of the departments is giving him. I must stress that Brian is working for the College of SSPA, not for the University. If you have a problem with your computer after he has run the software which checks for compliance, please contact me (at extension 3816) instead of calling the Help Desk. |
