TECHNOLOGY NEWS

The Communication Building is vacated this summer for heating/air conditioning updates, so the computer lab in room 114 was packed up and stored for the duration.   I have been assured that the construction will be completed by fall semester.  If there is a need for lab usage after May 12, the SPSSLAB can be made available.

So many upgrades are being accomplished this year - our GroupWise postoffice (POCOLLEG) was upgraded to 5.5, BSU Novell servers will be upgrading to the latest version (5.0), and these new versions along with increased demands on servers have made our current server outdated.  We have purchased a new server that will be put online as a Novell 5 server within the next few weeks.

Despite the threat of viruses all around, our college has been relatively virus-free.  Please be sure that all computers in your departments have virus scan software (Dr Solomon is the campus supported software).  There are new versions of Dr Solomon every 6 months and fixes  made available to address potentially harmful viruses that show up between the versions.  Contact either the help desk or me for updates.  (Another upgrade that will soon be available is automatic upgrades to virus software that will be accomplished when you log on.   You will not have to know where the software is located or how to install it.)

I hope all of you have having a happy summer and look forward to a busy and productive new school year.
