TECHNOLOGY NEWS

The Digital Lab in the Communication Building is open and functioning.  The pictures at the right were taken recently with the digital camera which is available in the lab.  I have had very positive feedback from students and faculty using the lab.  A total of 15 computers are available with 14 having Windows NT 4.0 operating systems and 1 Windows 95 PC with a video capture card.  Other digital equipment include a digital camera, a digital pad, teleconferencing cameras, and a writeable CD-ROM.  There are two color deskjet printers and a scanner available for use by the students.

Please visit the lab and do consider it as a possible location for classes in the upcoming semesters.  It will not allow as large a class as in the past, but can be scheduled for lab sections or smaller upper-division classes.  A list of software loaded on the computers is available on request and additional software packages can be submitted for consideration.   Open hours for the lab are MWF 8am to 7pm, TTH  8am to 1030am and 3pm to 7pm and Sat  10am to 2pm.

The SSPALAB in Campus School was scheduled to be upgraded to SPSS 8.0, but we discovered that that upgrade would not work on the NT 3.51 server that we presently have, so SPSS 7.5 has been relicensed for now and a plan is being developed to upgrade the server to NT4.0.  I will keep everyone informed on my progress with an upgrade.

We still are awaiting the migration to GroupWise, with the College of SSPA being scheduled to change over in April.  I will be keeping you advised of this change as the time for our migration approaches.   SSPA belongs to the biggest postoffice at the University (POCOLLEG) and so will be the last to be moved to the new version.
