Network Update
The server, PRAXIS, had an incident in March with a failed hard drive, but we were able to continue functioning thanks to the RAID schema. A replacement hard drive was sent to us over-night and we were able to install it, rebuild it, and synchronize it without even shutting the server down. It's time once again for planning another year of technology upgrades. Departments have been asked to submit to me their technology needs and over the summer the third year of the 5-year plan will be revised accordingly. This plan will then be submitted to the chairs for approval before implementation in the early fall. One point that needs to be made is that your technology needs will not be ignored this next academic year as I assume my part-time duties as Administrative Intern in the President's Office. |
The Dean had gotten approval to pursue hiring a
temporary assistant to the Network Administrator before we heard of my
selection as Intern. This position will assist the Network Administrator
in responding to user calls in
network, hardware, and software issues; administering accounts in both Novell and
Windows NT; rolling out new computers, peripherals, and software; maintaining computer labs and monitor supervision; maintaining inventory
databases; and backup and disaster recovery strategies.
