Department of History

About

Welcome to the Department of History at Boise State University. We are proud of the fact that we serve over 400 undergraduate majors and more than 30 active graduate students. With 15 regular faculty members working in fields that span the globe in all of its diversity, we are able to offer a wide range of courses. The department boasts award-winning researchers and teachers, and we actively participate in the mission of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, which is to engage in and serve the Boise community, the treasure valley, and the state of Idaho.

At the undergraduate level, we offer three degrees: a BA in History, a BA in History and Secondary Education, and a BA in History and Secondary Education with a Social Science Emphasis. The latter two degrees are for future high school teachers.
At the graduate level, we offer a traditional Master of Arts in History as well as a Master of Applied Historical Research degree. The latter degree, which has grown rapidly since its inception in 2003, has produced graduates who have entered into the workforce throughout the treasure valley in policy making and planning, journalism and education, natural and cultural resource management, and other related fields. The History Department is also the home of the Basque Studies Center and the Center for Idaho History and Politics. Please look through these pages; explore our programs and our faculty. If you have questions, get in touch with me or any other member of the faculty.
