INFORMATION FOR IDAHO WATER SYSTEMS CONCERNING ARSENIC IN DRINKING WATER All Community and
Non-transient Non-community Public Water Systems in Idaho must comply with the
new arsenic standard for drinking water. Additional information on
arsenic in drinking water can be found at the Idaho Department of Environmental
Quality’s Arsenic in
Drinking Water site. The deadline for compliance
with the new arsenic standard is January 23, 2006. However, Idaho Public Water Systems that think they will be
unable to meet this deadline may apply for an extension of compliance.
Eligible Idaho Public Water Systems may be granted an additional three to
nine years to comply with the new standard, depending on the number of people
served by the water system and the arsenic concentration present in the system. The Environmental Finance Center at Boise State University can assist Idaho Public
Water Systems in making application for a compliance deadline extension for the
arsenic standard. Contact Bill
Jarocki (208-426-4293) at the EFC for more information. Links:
