CJ Upper Division

Deadline for Fall 2012 consideration: June 1, 2012.

The Department of Criminal Justice requires students to apply for upper division status.  As a student, this means you must meet certain requirements before you are given permission to complete 300 and 400 level classes.  There are some courses available to non-criminal justice upper division students and student of other majors.

To apply for upper division, download the PDF file of the application (found at the end of this page). Submit the application to the Criminal Justice office with a transcript (does not have to be official-can be printed off BroncoWeb).

Once a student has been admitted to criminal justice upper division, a faculty advisor will be assigned to the student.

Minimum Criteria for Admission to CJ upper-division standing

1.  Admission to Boise State University and declared criminal justice major.

2. Completion of the following courses with a C- or better in each course:

  • ENGL101 and ENGL102
  • COMM101
  • SOC101
  • POLS101
  • PSYC101
  • 6 credits Area I core
  • MATH130 or higher (Area III core Mathematics courses). You must have completed your required math, or be enrolled in this requirement, at the time of application.
  • Area III lab science
  • Introductory CJ courses:  CJ101, CJ102, CJ103, and CJ104.

3.  At least 58 credits completed (including course work in progress at time of application).

4.  Cumulative GPA of 2.75, or higher, at time of application.

If you are planning on taking criminal justice courses with the prerequisite of “criminal justice upper division standing” in Fall 2012, you must apply for criminal justice upper division standing by June 1, 2012.

Due to processing time required for applications, June 1st is a firm deadline. Applications received after June 1st will be considered for Spring 2013.
