Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center on Boise’s Basque Block

Dave Lachiondo, Director of Boise State University’s Basque Studies Program will moderate a discussion after viewing Euskal Pilota: Larrua Harriaren Kontra” (“La Pelota Vasca: La Piel Contra La Piedra : The Basque Ball: Skin Against Stone [English]) a 2003 documentary film written and directed by Julio Medem. The film’s intention is to create a bridge between the different political positions that coexist, sometimes violently, in Euskal Herria.  One of the main controversies of the documentary is that the two principal protagonists in the controversy, the then incumbent Partido Popular and ETA refused to take part in the interviews.  Since that time PP is no longer the ruling party in Spain and in September 2010, ETA declared a permanent ceasefire.  In light of these events and the creation of a new political party “Sortu”, the discussion will focus on the prospects for new dialogue on the future of the Basque country.

Presentation is free and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
