HOW TO APPLY

We are happy that you are considering pursuing your MA/MAA Anthropology graduate studies at Boise State University! Students can apply at any time, but it is recommended the deadlines are followed (see below) for financial aid opportunities.  Students must submit the online application form:   (Consult the Graduate College website for more detailed HOW TO APPLY admission information):

DEADLINES - for fall admission only

February 15 - Priority application deadline to be considered for merit-based financial assistance
May 1 - Regular application deadline for Fall semester admission (financial assistance may not be awarded)
June 30 - FINAL Graduate College deadline (no financial assistance)

Once you have applied and been admitted into the Graduate College, prospective students will complete the Apply Yourself online application form for admission into the MA/MAA Anthropology program.  We require the following components:

    • GRE test scores
    • Two-page (500-word) personal letter of intent describing your background, academic interests, career goals, and your reasons for your interest in our program.
    • Two letters of recommendation from academic faculty (not employers, relatives, or friends)
    • Official grade transcripts of all post-secondary institutions attended.

NOTE:  The department recommends prospective students contact the graduate advisor and/or graduate faculty in a formal letter of inquiry before submitting application materials. Your letter should contain information on why our graduate program interests you and why your skills and experience would be an asset to our graduate program.

Once the file for an applicant is complete, it will be evaluated by the department graduate committee.  The admission recommendation (regular, provisional, or denial) will first be voted upon by the faculty and then be forwarded to the graduate dean.  The graduate dean will make the final admission decision and notify the applicant. The Department of Anthropology will only consider applicants with completed applications for admission to the graduate program. Applications will be deemed incomplete if they do not include all components of the application. Applicants who have been denied based on an incomplete application are welcome to resubmit a completed application for a later fall term.
