Mellon Resident Research Fellowships

Deadline: March 1, 2002

  • Short-term fellowships
  • Stipend $2,000 per month, for one to three months between June 1, 2002 and May 31, 2003, four consecutive weeks required

The library is located near Independence Hall and is a leading center for research in the history of American science and technology and its European roots, as well as early American history and culture.

There is no special application form.  Submit:

  • Cover sheet stating with  name, title of project, expected period of residence, institutional affiliation, mailing address, telephone numbers, and e-mail if available, and social security number;
  • A letter (not to exceed three single-spaced pages) which briefly describes the project and how it relates to existing scholarship, states the specific relevance of the American Philosophical Society's collections to the project, and indicates expected results of the research (such as publications);
  • A c.v. or résumé
  • One letter of reference (doctoral candidates must use their dissertation advisor). Published guides to the Society's collections are available in most research libraries, and a list of these guides is available on request. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the Library staff by mail or phone regarding the collections.
