Effective January, 2007
Relevant BSU Policy 5354-A
SSPA Official Faculty
Workload Policy
Official faculty, both tenured and tenure-track, shall
adhere to the provisions of BSU Policy 5354-A, Workload for Official Faculty.
In addition, SSPA faculty shall also:
- participate effectively in each of the three major
divisions of the workload – teaching, scholarship, and service. Faculty
may not be relieved from the minimum responsibilities established in the
university policy in any area for the academic year, with the exception of
those individuals fulfilling the following administrative assignments: department
chair, associate dean, or dean.
- Example: faculty receiving a grant or contract as part of
the scholarship workload must also fulfill the minimum teaching
responsibilities (six workload units) and the minimum service
responsibilities (two workload units) prescribed in the BSU policy.
- develop the workload using the SSPA Faculty Activity Plan.
The proposed workload must be approved by the chair and the dean. Faculty workload
preferences will be considered; however, programmatic needs of the
department/school must receive priority. Chairs have the responsibility to
deliver the curriculum in a manner that allows matriculation within a
reasonable time frame. This responsibility includes selection of the
instructor of record, the types of courses, the location, the time of day,
and day of week that courses should be scheduled each semester.
- sabbaticals, fellowships, and other approved leaves of
absence are not subject to the provisions of this policy (BSU Policy
5354-A, Section VII).
