Faculty Internationalization Teaching Grants

Application and Instructions

                                                                             

The Dean's Office is making $5,000 available for innovative internationalization teaching projects. The purpose of this program is to provide development support to faculty who wish to add a substantial internationalization component to a new or existing course. Funding can be used for any international teaching related project including, but not limited to:  workshops, honoraria, travel abroad expenses, materials, supplies, and equipment[1] related to international teaching. These funds are not designed to be used for faculty compensation or for regular teaching materials and supplies commonly provided by the department. The maximum award will be $1000. Typically, only one grant per person is made each year. The same event or project is not eligible for funding after the initial grant lapses. Applications will be reviewed competitively by a committee of faculty members who will make recommendations to the Dean. Applications must be submitted to the Dean's Office by 4:00 p.m., by the second Monday in September for allocations between October 1 and March 31. Applications for the period of April 1, through September 30, are due by 4:00 p.m. by the first Friday in March.[2]

 

The following criteria will be used in allocating the funds.  Higher priority will be given to proposals that:

Þ     has a significant impact on the learning environment through the addition of a substantial international component.

Þ     improves teaching techniques or utilizes innovative technologies in teaching.

Þ     benefits a substantial number of students.

Þ     incorporates international learning goals and outcome measures.

Þ     are submitted by faculty who have not received SSPA teaching grants in the previous two years.

Þ     are submitted by tenure-track faculty.

 

APPLICATION

The application must include the following:

1.     Name, home department, phone number, rank, and title of teaching grant proposal.

2.     A brief (one page) description of purpose/objectives, including a description of anticipated outcomes.

3.     Other funding applied for and/or received to support this proposal.

3.     Amount of funds requested and amount(s) and dates of prior awards (if any) from the College.

4.     If a teaching grant was received in the previous academic year, please explain the current proposal differs from that submitted in the previous grant.

5.     Are you currently under consideration for funding from the Research Grant Committee?

6.     An itemized budget indicating how the requested funds would be spent.

7.     An abbreviated (one page) vita.

8.     Statement of support and signature from department chairperson.

[2]   Unexpended funds are not available after the end of the fiscal year.
